Hobbes

I've posted about our Manx cat, Hobbes before. He and our dog Trixie, have a love / hate relationship. Sometimes, Hobbes just wants to get away from Trixie and have some peace and quite.
Today I was out in the yard taking pictures in between rain showers.

Is that Hobbes in my flowers?

Yep, I see Hobbes.

When he realized I saw him, he decided to come out.

Since Trixie was wandering around the yard I have to think he was hiding from her. Life around here is always interesting.

The Pounce!

Our Papillon dog and our Manx cat have a love / hate relationship. Some days, they play and chase each other having fun. Other days they fight like, well cats and dogs.

Today I was outside taking pictures of the lovely flowers that are blooming in our neighborhood, when I noticed Trixie was down in our empty pool. Until this past week she wouldn't go near it. However, our cat has always found the empty pool an interesting place to explore and I wonder if that lead Trixie to become curious and want to explore too.

Anyway, as I was taking pictures she came out of the pool. She decided to wait on Hobbes who was also down there.
Trixie Ready To Play
She wanted to pounce on him as soon as he clears the top step.
Hurry I'm excited!

I'm not sure if she was playing or taunting.
Come on let's play!

I am quiet sure Hobbes was not in a playful mood when he exited.
Whoopee, Let's play!

He didn't find her game fun.

Beat it kid, you're bothering me!

If you look closely through the bush, you can see Hobbes' right paw raised to smack Trixie. They both ran off and I can't say who was chasing whom.
I'm outta here!

I can report they are both now laying in the floor resting. So no harm no foul.

Have a nice Sunday afternoon.

A Cat Rug

Our Manx cat Hobbes, is a character. He is now over 13 years old and a very senior citizen for a Manx. The average life span for the breed is 10 - 11 years so we are very glad he is still in such good health. When the weather turns cooler he starts sleeping on our bed at night and wanting to snuggle much more.

Since he was a little kitten he has done what we call "cat rug." He lays with his hind legs stretched out behind him and sometimes his front legs stretched out too. He looks like a small version of a classic bear skin rug.

He still does this but less frequently as he has grown old. I caught him doing this the other day but he had his front legs tucked up under him so he looked very odd. I happened to have my camera handy and grabbed some shots.

I find him greatly humorous.

Have a wonderful Saturday.

Hobbes

I've written about our cat Hobbes before, but I came across this picture and just love the intense look on his face. He is 13 years old and while he isn't as active as he once was he still hunts and climbs. He doesn't jump as high or run as fast but then neither can I.

He is a Manx so he has no tail. He is also very vocal and talks to us all the time. I've always been amazed that he will actually come to us when we call his name, well most of the time anyway. When we had the pool open he would come right up to the edge and allow us to pet him, or he would "talk" to us with out showing any fear of the water.

The average life span for a Manx is 10 - 11 years so he is an old man and that probably explains why he and Trixie are not buddies. As a young cat he was not intimidated by dogs and usually was the boss of that type relationship. That is why I was so very shocked when he wanted nothing to do with Trixie when we first brought her home. They do have their moments and I hope as she gets older and a bit calmer that they will actually will get along better.

I don't think I could have another breed of cat after Hobbes. He has so much personality and I do love him a lot.

Do you have any pet stories?
